  • The Whirlpool Galaxy is a well-known spiral galaxy located about 31 million light-years away in the constellation Canes Venatici. It is most famous for its prominent spiral structure and its interaction with a smaller companion galaxy, NGC 5195, which appears to be attached to one of its spiral arms. This gravitational interaction triggers star formation within the arms.
