Abell 779

Abell 779 is a galaxy cluster located about 300 million light-years away in the constellation Lynx. Although relatively small, this cluster contains dozens of gravitationally bound galaxies, mostly ellipticals and lenticulars. The inner region of the cluster is dominated by the elliptical galaxy NGC 2832, discovered by William Herschel on December 7, 1785.

Composite of 601 exposures taken with the OST and a QHY600 in filters B (151x100s), V (120x100s), R (140x100s), and I (143x100s) over three nights between February 3 and March 4. On average, five percent of these images are rejected due to poor quality. The total exposure time is approximately 15.5 hours.
